Loom shuttles; stop-motions; weftreplenishing mechanism.-In order that cops upon paper or other quills may be readily placed and firmly held upon the shuttle spindle, the spindle is con. structed of two hollow tapering semicylindrical parts A, B, which are soldered, brazed, or riveted together at their ends C and are normally kept apart by their own elasticity and the action of a leaf spring E. The heel H of the part A fits within the heel G of the part B, which has an end wall G<1> and is formed with an inner shoulder P to retain the spring E in position. When the spindle is raised into the position shown in dotted lines, the heel H comes against a stop J on the shuttle spring O, and is forced into the heel G, thus allowing the quill to be placed upon the spindle. The top and bottom of the spindle are preferably formed with teeth K, which bite into the interior surface of the quill. The parts A, B are stamped from sheet steel, and the heels G, H may be formed integral therewith, or may be stamped separately and afterwards brazed or soldered to the rear ends of the parts B, A. If it is desired to adapt the spindle to receive a stop-motion or weft-replenishing mechanism controlling member, which is held within the split quill until the weft is substantially exhausted, recesses are formed at the inner edges of the parts A, B at one side of the shuttle.
