Реферат: ABSTRACT The present invention resides in a partially carbonized or substantially completely carbonized nonlinear resilient fiber having a spring-like structural configuration and a reversible deflection of greater than 1.2:1 and to a process of making the fiber. In the process, the fiber is prepared from an acrylic precursor material which is stabilized and then heat treated to a temperature sufficient to impart a spring-like structural configuration on the fiber. Optionally, the precursor fiber is stabilized, collected into a fiber tow, knitted or woven into a cloth and heat treated. The cloth can then be deknitted and carded, garnetted or otherwise mechanically disassembled to produce a resilient web-like fluff or wool-like material having a considerable loft due to the spring-like structural configuration of the fibers. Electrical conductivity can be imparted to the fibers by carbonization of the fibers at a temperature of greater than 1000°C and up to 3000°C.
