Alarms; barrel ratchets.-Alarm mechanism takes the place of the barrel ratchet, the barrel arbor A being geared through wheels B, C and others (not shown), to the hammer-propelment, which is locked in the usual way until the hour hand overtakes the alarm-hand. The intermediate wheel C is mounted upon a rocking bridge E having a pin e<1>, playing in a slot m in the pillarplate, and a tail E<1>, for allowing operation by hand. The barrel wheel B bears a stop-wheel which catches on the head of the rocking bridge. The directions of rotation in running down and in winding respectively are indicated by the arrows x and y. A slide in the band of the case locks or frees the alarm hammer as desired.
